Visual Journaling and Mindfulness

Did you know that Art is a great tool for mindfulness?

Mindfulness is the practice of being fully present in moments throughout your day. There are a lot of ways to engage in mindful behavior including breathing, meditation, exercise, and art! By practicing Mindfulness we train our brains to resist the fight, flight, or freeze reaction triggered by the amygdala in our brains when faced with troubling situations. When we engage in mindful behavior we activate our prefrontal cortex, the part of our brain responsible for thinking and making decisions. By practicing this we change the way those stress and fear signals travel in our brains from triggering the amygdala to triggering the prefrontal cortex which allows us to think more clearly about the situation and respond appropriately.

Are you ready to use Art for Mindfulness?

Join us in exploring how art and visual journaling can be used as part of a mindfulness practice! This blog will provide you with different visual journaling prompts designed to engage your brain in the same way mediation does. Some prompts will focus on mindfulness and experiencing the process of art making, while others will engage you in reflection and processing of your thoughts and feelings. You can even join us for live group journaling sessions streamed on our social media @CreativeOutletsArtsCenter on Instagram or CreativeOutletsArtsCenter on Facebook.
